SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE: THE NEW INFORMATION INDUSTRY
The article examines and provides an over view of various ramifications of technological transformations in the information industry from the past to today and also give a prediction of what it will be in the future. It also examines its sociological and economic effect and impact to other world.
In defining the key concept, information industry was viewed as comprising the elements of computing; dealing with information storage and processing, office automation; dealing with task automation and information creation and display; and telecommunications. Historically, the information industry was organized based on information form such as Text, voice, image, audio/video and data. All players within the information industry focus on business opportunity related to a particular type of information form. The text was mostly dominated by the publishing industry, the image by the photographic industry, the voice by telecommunications, audio/video by the entertainment industry and data by the computing industry. Each of these industries decides on what function of information to engage in such as creation and collection of content, display, storage, processing and distribution.
Despite the inefficiencies in the information industry today as information based business are becoming crucial in our commercial and social lives, the information industry has witnessed extra-ordinary advancement in digital electronics as a result of convergence of different forms of information which is driven by technological changes and digitization which transform into an ever-wider array of information business. This advancement is coupled with the changes accompanying the move from narrow band information transmission to broadband communication which will occasion a major paradigm shift in the information industry. Now that digital electronics have become the dominating technology for every existing information business, the information industry have to realign to it, which results to three major industries instead of the previous five, which are as follows:
1. Digitized content which includes players involved in creation and collection of content.
2. Multimedia devices (information appliances) players involved in manufacturing wide varieties of information appliances
3. Convergent network which includes players involved in various modes of information transport.

The convergence of information industries will happen because of the technological and business imperatives are compelling.
With the ongoing transformation, information storage, processing and software-based manipulations becomes the three ingredient of information business. These capabilities are supplied by the computer hardware industry to the new functionally defined information industries. To succeed in this new environment, critical factors such as global orientation, managing geo-political dynamics, flexibility, speed and productivity, allowance and partnering, quality obsession, mass customization, breakthrough innovation, access to capital, investment in human capital and end-use-focus are very important.

This work avails to the reader of the ramification of technological transformations as information mega industry. These transformation and advancements are greatly witnessed and enjoyed by developed economy like America while developing economy like Nigeria are lagging behind and needs time to catch up with this fast technological transformation.

In the article, the world wide revenues of information centered business as stated in the intellectual summery exceeds one trillion dollars per annum. The same amount is also invested by the Americans in information based goods and services per annum. Does that means that Americans are the only investors in information based services and goods in the world, since the world wild revenues of information centered business is the same amount?
Information industry in the past was traditionally defined as form based because the government has actively constrained many information-based companies from entering other types of information business. The writer did not state what constrained and the reason for this constrain by the Government.
With the ongoing transformation in information technologies into digital electronics through convergence and alliance that resulted into three mega information industries instead of the previous five, critical factors needed to succeed in this environment were discussed. But the writer could not highlight some possible challenges that could pose a threat to these new information industries as factors were given to succeed in this new environment.
It is a fact that any authoritative intellectual work published should have some references to backup its authoritativeness. In this article, some authorities were quoted but no reference was giving at the end.
Finally, I want to comment that the article (Tutorial) is highly intellectual and educative as it reveals the transformations in the online information industries in the various technologies and how it further diversify and improve information businesses in the world.
